Symril Line

Smyril Line was established in 1982 with the aim of operating a passenger and vehicle ferry service on the North Atlantic creating a sea link between Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Scotland, Shetland, Norway and Denmark. The company headquarters is located in Tórshavn, on the Faroe Islands, with branch offices in Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Shetland.

In the past 16 years, Smyril Line has run many of its North Atlantic routes as a 'summer only' service but, with the addition of newer state of the art vessels, Symril Line has decided to make the connections a permanent part of their service. Retro-fitting their existing vessel, Norröna, enables the company to provide commercial vehicle transport during the summer season and cargo transport during the winter season to the various North Atlantic destinations.

Smyril Line has several other subsidiaries that are active in related fields. Smryil Line Cargo was established in 1998, with cargo operations centred at Hanstholm. Here the company has warehouse facilities and extra cargo space at the harbour. Additional operations are out of Kolding and Hedehusene, both in Denmark.

The company also owns and runs the Best Western Hotel in Föroyar and the Youth Hostel Tórshavn. In addition to its ferry service, Smyril Line is able to offer its passengers tour packages through its Smyril Line Tours subsidiary. It specialises in booking trip for individuals and groups and can arrange accommodation, car rental, horseback riding, hiking and many other activities.
