You’ll need an EU Pet Passport if you want to take your dog, cat or ferret with you, and have a microchip fitted to them that meets an ISO specification. For full details of how to qualify your animal for the PETS Travel Scheme, please click here for the DEFRA web site. Alternatively, you can call the PETS helpline on 0870 241 1710.
Please note, cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at least 6 months before you travel, so make sure you plan well in advance.
EU legislation now allows rabbits and rodents such as guinea pigs and mice to travel too – and you won’t need a Pet Passport to transport them!
We will need to make sure your pet’s documentation is valid for re-entry into the UK, so please check in at least 45 minutes prior to departure on your return journey. For the safety of your pet and other passengers, all pets must remain in your vehicle for the duration of the crossing.
